Reminder regarding national ground beef: E. coli is responsible for one death

A national recall of some 132,606 pounds of ground beef was issued for E. coli contamination, according to the US Department of Agriculture.

Beef products were produced and packaged by Cargill Meat Solutions and are dated June 21st. The USDA said the beef was associated with 17 illnesses and one death, with dates of onset of the disease ranging from July 5th to 25th. Items have been shipped to retailers across the country.

The FDA is concerned that some products may be frozen and still consumers. The recalled products bear the establishment number "EST. 86R "in the USDA inspection mark. You can go here to see a complete list of the recalled products.

Consumers who own the products are welcome to discard them or return them to the place of purchase.

People infected with E. coli can develop diarrhea, often bloody and vomiting. Most people recover within a week, but in some cases more serious infections develop, including kidney failure.
