ATLANTA – Dem. American John Lewis was hospitalized Saturday for an undisclosed illness.
According to a spokesman for his office, the 78- A Democratic congressman and a civil rights icon were in a hospital for routine observation. He is resting comfortably and expecting to be released on Sunday.
Lewis, a Democrat, played a key role in the civil rights movement and walked with Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. in 1965 in Selma, Alabama. waited at an event in Atlanta on Saturday night but did not participate.
