Last week in Washington, Google CEO (GOOG, GOOGL), Sundar Pichai, stopped at the Pentagon to try to ease the tensions related to the cancellation of the drone contract for AI, The Washington Post reports.
In June, amid the reactions of its employees, the company decided to withdraw from the Pentagon's Project Maven, which is responsible for interpreting video images for applications such as improving the targeting of drone strikes.
Pichai met with Maven leaders – civilian and military leaders, mainly from the office of the Undersecretary of Defense Intelligence, according to the report.
Google tries to make the difference between maintaining lucrative military contracts and managing employee anger for such contracts. The company has bid for one of the Pentagon's most lucrative cloud computing contracts.
