There seems to be some mismatch between Nike's brand image and the sports giant's political tendencies.

While Nike has caught the heat of right-wing supporters for its decision to present Colin Kaepernick in the company's latest advertising campaign, a new report from the Center for Responsive Politics – a non-partisan, non-partisan research group shows that Nike and its political action committee donated more than three times more money to Republican candidates than Democratic candidates for the 2018 election season.

In total, Nike gave $ 424,000 to the GOP against $ 122,000 to the Democrats. The results follow a recent trend showing that Nike has given more Republicans than Democrats in every election cycle since 2010 with the exception of 2016.

As a result of the money

According to the report, nearly half of the money donated by Nike employees comes from co-founder Phil Knight and his family.

Nike's action continues to skyrocket after Kaepernick's announcement

No matter how much Nike received back from the unveiling of the Kaepernick ad campaign, it did little to slow the company's growth. Nike's shares have recently reached a historic record and have increased by almost five percent since the launch of Kaepernick's announcements in early September. This translates into an additional market value of $ 6 billion, by CBS News.

Over the year, Nike is up 36% and is doing better than any other company listed on the Dow's 30 best-in-class index.

Kaepernick is currently on a long-term contract with Nike, which pays him millions every year and is tied with the contracts of other NFL star players.
