The project comes as leaders of major social media platforms recently admitted that some political views were mistakenly silenced in an effort to combat online harassment.

Although technology firms have denied a bias against the Conservatives, President Trump has accused platforms of this only, tweeting last month: "Social media totally disproves Republican / conservative voices. For the Trump Administration, we will not let that happen. They reduce the opinions of many people to the RIGHT, while doing nothing to others. "

Bloomberg notes that "the order is in its infancy and has not been overtaken by other government agencies yet," said a White House official.
