The changes to Iowa's election law will reduce the length of the 11-day advance voting period and eliminate the option of voting on the right-hand poll.
In-person advance voting will begin in Dubuque County on Monday, Oct. 8, according to an election notice from the office of Auditor Denise Dolan. Ballots will be sent to those who request them as of Tuesday, October 9th.
To vote early in person, visit the Dubuque County Courthouse at 720 Central Avenue, or the Elections Annex at 75 Locust Street, from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. Monday to Friday, starting at 8 am October.
The deadline to send a ballot to vote by mail has been advanced to 17 hours. Saturday, October 27th. To request a postal ballot, visit DubuqueCounty.org/elections/2018-general-election.
Another change is the elimination of the right-wing vote.
In previous elections, voters could tick a box to support all Republicans or Democrats on the ballot rather than choosing the races individually. Voters will now have to select a preferred candidate in each race.
Iowa's Electoral Identity Act remains in effect. You must present a valid photo ID to be able to vote.
However, voters can still sign an oath of identity if they do not have photo ID. This will be the last election in which this option is offered.
