Miami Dolphins Safety Reshad Jones said he did not give up on his teammates and did not regret not returning to Sunday's win over the New York Jets.
Jones said Wednesday that he was on the same page with Adam Gase, coach of the Dolphins, and defensive coordinator, Matt Burke, and that he had discussed the issue with his teammates this week .
"I never let go," said Jones as the Dolphins prepared to face the Green Bay Packers (3-4-1) on Sunday at 4:25 pm.
"I have been here for nine years and I play my hobby for this team. I have never been a quitter and I will never do it. I will continue to do what I have to do, be one of the best in this league and help this team win football games. "
Jones also stated that the idea that he withdrew from the game was not accurate.
Against the Jets, the Dolphins used a rotation of players in high school to get defensive rookie defenseman Minkah Fitzpatrick out for more games.
While Jones and safety T.J. McDonald started in safety, Fitzpatrick began as a limit, ahead of Bobby McCain, who played Fitzpatrick as a corner nickel midfielder.
In the fourth round of the game, the Dolphins replaced Fitzpatrick with McDonald's safety, allowing Jones to stay out of the way.
Jones did not return and was not in the Dolphins locker room after the match.
"Sunday is behind us, we are focused on Green Bay right now," Jones said. "The coaches staff, the players, we are all on the same page and it is behind us."
Gase stated that he had met Jones after the match and that they were "on the same page" after their discussion. Gase also said that if Jones were to be disciplined, he would be treated internally.
"We managed what we needed and we moved forward," Gase told Jones about Jones on Wednesday.
Fitzpatrick stated that he had had no conversations with Jones about the way.
"I think everyone would be unhappy to be out of the game, but I can not say too much about it," Fitzpatrick said Wednesday.
Jones, Gase and the Dolphins want to keep Jones's number in house.
McDonald says the dolphins have overcome the problem surrounding Jones.
"We know what we have in our room. We understand what is happening, "McDonald said. "We are talking about a guy who has been [in] the long-time league that went to war with us for a while. "
Jones' references were not lost either.
This is a selection of two Pro Bowl players, with five touchdowns in second place in Dolphins history.
Jones has 35 tackles, five pass deflections and two steals in seven of the nine Dolphins played this season.
"I have been a professional for nine years. I'm one of the best defensemen in the league for a long time. And I will continue to fight and play my a-off for this team, "Jones said.
