The piece of bodyguard, Richard Madden, would be entrusted with the role of James Bond.

The 007 producers are about to approach the spotlight to take on the role of Daniel Craig, according to industry insiders.

The former Games of Thrones actor, 32, made the run with his portrayal of David Budd in the television series Bodyguard.

Barbara Broccoli – who is in charge of deciding who plays the revered role – is likely to approach Madden in the coming days, a source said.

"It looks like seriously that he (Madden) is going to get the job," said the Daily Mail insider.

"Not only is he at the top of the list, but she's getting ready to propose the role."

This would end months of speculation as to who would assume the coveted role in the British film.

Daniel Craig leaves the iconic role

If he is approached, it would mean that he beat Idris Elba, Tom Hardy and even Emily Blunt to the role.

Broccoli has previously stated that the role of 007 will "probably" never be played by a woman.

Bond's next Bond movie, Bond 25, is a setback: Danny Boyle is stepping down as a director after "creative differences".
