Ricky Jay, master of magic, whose career, which has lasted for several decades, includes guest roles in Deadwood and The simpsons, died at the age of 70 years.
The news was confirmed by its director, Winston Simone, who said Variety that his client died of natural causes. "It was unique," said Simone. "We will never see one another again."
A New Yorker Profile has already described Jay as "perhaps the most talented sleight of the world artist". His solo show on Broadway, Ricky Jay and his 52 assistants, was filmed for HBO by famed director David Mamet in 1996. He has appeared in many of Mamet's films, including House of Games, The Spanish prisoner, Things change, Red belt and State and hand. Additional movie credits included Magnolia, boogie nights and Tomorrow never dies.
Jay's TV credits include a recurring role in Deadwood, on which he played card shark Eddie Sawyer. He also appeared on episodes of The simpsons (playing himself), X files, unity, Flashforward, ride, kidnapped, lie to me and Simon and Simon.
In addition to his acting credits, Jay was a frequent guest of the late-night talk show. He appeared on Tonight's show with guests Johnny Carson, Jay Leno and Jimmy Fallon, as well as The parade of David Letterman and Late at night with Conan O'Brien.
Jay has also worked as a film consultant, putting his technical expertise to the service of titles such as Forrest Gump, the illusionist and Prestige. In 2012, he was the subject of the documentary Misleading Practice: The Mysteries and Mentors of Ricky Jay.
