When Colin Kaepernick said in an instantly famous Nike advertisement: "Believe in something, even if it means sacrificing everything," listened to Rihanna.
According to Us Weekly magazine, Rihanna reportedly refused to be part of the Super Bowl LIII half-time show because she did not agree with the NFL's treatment of Kaepernick.
Kaepernick is an unsigned freelancer since the end of the 2016 season. This seems to be directly related to his kneeling during the National Anthem to draw attention to social issues. Kaepernick filed a grievance of collusion against the NFL.

If the source of Us Weekly is accurate, it's a statement of the famous singer. It may not be "sacrificing everything" because his career is incredibly good with or without the Super Bowl, but the Super Bowl halftime show is a unique opportunity.
The Super Bowl half-time show is seen by a large audience
The half-time Super Bowl show is an undeniable advantage for virtually every artist on the planet. The Super Bowl is regularly the most-watched television show in the United States each year and the NFL has made the half-time show an event not to be missed for many.
Some of the biggest bands in the music industry, such as Michael Jackson, Prince, Bruce Springsteen, U2, Katy Perry and Bruno Mars played at half-time, though the performers did not pay. It's just an investment in their careers – being exposed at half-time in front of so many people is priceless. There is nothing else like this.
When Rihanna declined the offer, the NFL made Maroon 5 her halftime performer at the Super Bowl in Atlanta in February.
Rihanna is not the first to refuse the Super Bowl
There was a similar story last year. According to the Los Angeles Times, Jay-Z reportedly refused the half-time show at the Super Bowl. According to rumors, he would support Kaepernick.
Rihanna does not need this exposure. According to a Forbes article in April, it has sold 124 million digital singles in the United States, 10 million more than any other artist. She has money, is known and recognized for her multiple Grammy Awards.
However, it's hard to say no to the Super Bowl and its more than 100 million viewers. But, according to Us Weekly, Rihanna had a good reason.
