Who lead the world? Rihanna … and women in general, according to the singer.
"Women are leading the world right now and it's a shame for men," lingerie designer Savage X Fenty told Elle magazine after her parade included in New York Fashion Week on Wednesday night.
The artist launched her Savage X Fenty lingerie collection in May and do not disappoint. The 90-piece collection was selling in less than 24 hours and fans were waiting in virtual lines of several hours just to get a piece of colorful clothing.
Rihanna, 30, told Elle that she wanted her show to celebrate all kinds of women from all walks of life.
"I wanted to include all women. I wanted every woman on the stage with different energies, different races, different body types, different stages in their femininity, their culture, "she said. "I wanted women to feel celebrated and we started that shit. We own that. It's our land because that's really the case.
The show "immersive experience" included clothes ranging from sizes 0-2 to sizes 20-22 and bra sizes ranging from 32A to 44DD. Models like Gigi and Bella Hadid at Duckie Thot and Joan Smalls walked on the podium. At least two of the women presented were pregnant, including model Slick Woods.
Rihanna said she worked tirelessly with Woods throughout the model's pregnancy.
"I am not one to judge a woman of any part of her femininity, especially of motherhood, because it is like the personality of the woman. Bringing a life to the world is not a joke, "she said.
"I have a lot of respect for these women and for those who choose to continue working and doing it during pregnancy," Ms. Rihanna said. "I have a lot of respect for Slick and all the other pregnant women who work until their due date. I will never tell her that she can not perform unless she tells me I can not because I'm about to spend a second.
Rihanna's empowering message is not new. When the singer prepared to launch the Savage X Fenty line in May, she reminded women around the world that if they were going to buy her lingerie, they would have to buy it for themselves and not for a partner.
"Women should wear lingerie for their nonsense," she told Vogue at the time. "I can only hope to encourage confidence and strength by showing lingerie in a different light. You do not have to stick with one person with lingerie; it's fun to play. You can be cute and play a week and a black widow next week. You can take risks with lingerie. I want people to wear Savage X Fenty and think, I am a bad dog. I want women to have their beauty.
