There is always a hint of transcendence in Robyn's music. This is the reason why "Dancing On My Own" was a perfect choice to start a moment of totally unconscious, full of consumer and youthful freedom in the first season of HBO. girls, while two of the title characters are dancing around a Brooklyn room, getting rid of pain and difficult medical sentences and diagnoses. Of course, it's a limited release: it's the kind of fashion that white girls who can afford health care and apartments in Brooklyn have access to. But for these characters, that's all; for them, Robyn is the sound of liberation.
It was not the only appearance of Robyn's music on girls; Lena Dunham, the creator of the show, asked Robyn to contribute to the last season of the show, where fans heard a first version of the song "Honey". Robyn has been working on the song since then, saying that it took longer to write "Honey" than any other song she's written. But now, "Honey" – in its final form, from the next album of the same name – is here.
This new version pulsates with a persistent heartbeat: not the racing pace of a crush but the warmth of self-confidence. Its more minimal than the girls version; Robyn knows that freedom often involves sacrifice. "No, you will not get what you need," Robyn offers. "But baby, I have what you want, come get your honey." It's his own transcendence.
