ROCKFORD, IL (WIFR) – The National Alliance of Mental Illnesses of Northern Illinois has been meeting at the Veterans Memorial Hall to mark the final day of Mental Illness Awareness Week.

Several speakers shared their stories of mental illness and their experiences of adaptation at the rally.

NAMI hopes that the rally and other events will help the organization to have more health advocates and continue to raise awareness.

"One in five people have mental illness every year, and we want people to know that resources are available," said NAMI Executive Director Danielle Angileri. "There are people here to help you when you need help."

NAMI organizes several monthly support groups and training courses to help reduce the stigma associated with mental illness.
