PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia Flyers fired their executive director Ron Hextall.
Hextall was fired Monday after four and a half seasons and the Flyers are struggling to break the 10-11-2 record under coach Dave Hakstol. The Flyers have just lost 6-0 in Toronto and have already used five goaltenders this season.
Flyers President Paul Holmgren thanked Hextall for "his many significant contributions, but it has become clear that we no longer share the same philosophical approach to team leadership."
He added that an immediate change was in the interest of the team and that he hopes to have a new general manager "as soon as possible".
Hextall played 13 seasons in the NHL and spent two 11-year seasons with the Flyers. He also spent seven seasons as assistant general manager with the Los Angeles Kings.
