"I am really humbled and extremely excited to be playing for England again at Wembley," Rooney said in a statement from the FA.

"I would like to thank Gareth Southgate and the FA for inviting me again and for helping to support my foundation in this process.

"Playing for England has been the greatest honor of my career. Winning my 120th and last cap will be a particularly special moment for me. It is normal that the match is against the United States and I hope that both groups of supporters will enjoy the game. "

After his international debut in 2003 as England's youngest player, Rooney surpassed Bobby Charlton as the country's top scorer in 2015.

In his 13-year international career, Rooney has represented England at three World Cups and three European Championships.

Rooney, who started his career at Everton, spent 13 seasons at Manchester United.

After a season at Everton, he moved to the United States to join D.C. United, with whom he took part in the playoffs in his first campaign.

He is not expected to be part of the US teams or captain of this team, but will be replaced by a charity match organized to raise funds for the Rooney Foundation, which aims to improve the lives of disadvantaged children.

England will also face Croatia at Wembley in the League of Nations on 18 November.
