ABC Tuesday launched The conners, a spin-off (so to speak) of short duration Roseanne the alarm clock, which was torpedoed when … you know. So how did the eagerly awaited pursuit approach the elephant in the room? Keep reading to find out…
The first begins less than three months after the events of the rebirth and only three weeks after the death of Roseanne Conner. The family is reunited in the kitchen, still in mourning after the alleged heart attack of Roseanne. We are told that she died in her sleep and that Dan has been sleeping on the couch ever since. Bev mentions that a mother should never have to bury one of her children, while Jackie, who can not help, says to her 92-year-old mother, still flourishing, that It will probably stay long enough to bury it. the whole family, before she's buried by a robot. In the middle of the discussion, D.J. enters with his wife Geena (Maya series newcomer Lynne Robinson), who has returned from Afghanistan for a five-day leave.
Shortly after, Jackie receives a call from the coroner's office and asks Dan if they can speak privately. She reveals that Roseanne has not died of a heart attack: she has taken an overdose of opioids. Dan is swallowed, believing that Roseanne has stopped taking prescribed painkillers after her knee surgery. Becky and Darlene join their father and aunt Jackie outside to discuss the not-so-shocking coroner's report. At this point, Becky reveals that she has found a prescribed pill in Marcy Bellinger in Roseanne's closet. (If the name seems familiar to you, it's because Dan already found pills belonging to Marcy when he confronted Roseanne about her addiction in the penultimate episode of Revival). Dan confiscates the pills and goes back inside, then Becky says, "That was the only thing I wanted in Mom's closet."
The next day, Becky and Darlene deal with the many overdue bills of Dan and Roseanne. They plan to use Mom's death as an excuse, then point out that Roseanne has already used a death in her family as an excuse far too often. The sisters share a chuckle, then Darlene asks if they are horrible people who are laughing. "Well, I'm tired of crying," Becky said. Mom taught them to laugh inappropriately. Becky then gets up to go to work. When Darlene asks when she will return to work with her, Becky responds that she does not have the time. Not only does she work, but she goes out again. She defends her egoism, claiming that she had already experienced all this at Mark's death and could not bear to go through it anymore. She tells her younger sister that she is the obvious choice to take over from Mom, because she already lives there and has all she needs of "terrifying tyrant".
Harris comes in and sees the sisters fighting. She insists that they stop so that one of them does not regret what they say if the other suddenly dies. It is then revealed that Harris is riddled with guilt because she and Granny Rose have always fought. Darlene assures her daughter that all the families are bickering and Roseanne knew that her granddaughter loved her. Becky goes off and Darlene and Harris head to the living room to find Jackie cleaning the sofa. In a few seconds, Becky returns to apologize to Darlene … and ask for a commute to work.
Then Dan and Chuck drink at the restaurant. Darlene enters and confronts him about a billboard stuck to his truck, calling Marcy for the murder of his wife. She tells Daddy he needs to remove the billboard, but Dan says he has to do it so he does not drive his car to Marcy's house.
Later in the evening, Dan goes home and watches a movie with D.J., Geena, Becky and Bev, while Darlene is busy paying bills. Geena accompanies Darlene when she goes to the kitchen, where Jackie takes care of her work by developing a system for better circulation of the coffee maker. Geena suggests that Jackie's has enough caffeine, while Darlene tells her aunt to go home and sleep a little. She then opens a kitchen drawer to find more Roseanne pills. Jackie reveals that she found them in Roseanne's pack ice and hid them because she knew they had upset Darlene.
We then cut in the living room. We knock on the door, and this is none other than Marcy (played by Last man on earth the survivor Mary Steenburgen). Dan goes out and closes the door behind him, telling Marcy that she has a lot of courage to show up here. Marcy wants him to remove the sign from his car because everyone already hates her. She explains that people in Lanford exchanged drugs because nobody's insurance covered everything they needed. Roseanne called her to complain about her knee, saying that she needed painkillers if she had to go back to work. If she knew that Roseanne had a drug problem, she would not have given her the drugs. She apologizes, then goes away once Darlene came forward and told Dan that they had found extra pills prescribed to people other than Marcy. Dan feels bad and asks Darlene to bring Marcy home, then she burst into tears.
The next afternoon, Darlene visits her father in the garage. Dan tells him that he is very unhappy that he has no one to blame for the death of his wife. He also admits that his wife could be a very stubborn person, and she would not have listened to anyone who tried to help her overcome her addiction. Darlene then returns to the kitchen to find that her aunt Jackie has created an even bigger mess. His reorganization efforts were halted. She just wanted to step in and pick up where her older sister had stopped, but she did not know what to do with herself. She does not know where something belongs, and does not really feel as if she belonged now that Roseanne is gone. Darlene gives her aunt a shoulder to cry on, then tells Jackie to go home and sleep a little.
The next morning, the whole family was in the kitchen. Jackie's caresses her back for the newly established "flow," while Darlene, Becky, and D.J bicker, as in the good old days. Everyone then sits for breakfast, which turns into a new sequence of opening titles. It's very similar to the old one (the theme song that accompanies it is almost identical), but for now, we're going to stop on a photo of Darlene laughing as Dan prepares a sausage for The breakfast.
After the final commercial break, we see Dan getting ready for bed. It's the first time he's been sleeping in his room since Roseanne's death, and the pillows next to him are still tight since the night he found her. He repairs them, then puts his arm around Roseanne's pillow as if she were still there.
The last but not least is Mark, who is at the center of the B story of the first. After the departure of his new friends, Enrique and Joey, Mark asks Dan for advice. He has a crush on Enrique and Joey, but he does not know who to sit on the bus next time. Dan is uncomfortable at first, but finally helps Mark make a decision at the end of the episode, sitting down with his grandson to draw up a list of the advantages and disadvantages of each boy.
