British police looking for a man looking like Ross Geller's friends say that they made an arrest.
Officers from Lancashire, England, announced on Twitter that a 36-year-old suspect had been arrested in west London for suspicion of theft.
In October, Lancashire police broadcast images of the celebrity look-alike while he was leaving with a crate of beer, calling the public for help.
The Facebook publication immediately sent the Internet into paroxysms of friendsjoy linked to deception.
The police in Scotland even warned the public not to approach the suspect.
After hearing about history, actor David Schwimmer, who played Ross for 10 years, was quick to step into the act, posting a video proving that he was abroad at the time of the flight.
"Officers, I swear it was not me. As you can see, I was in New York. Good luck with the investigation for the Blackpool Police, who works hard, "he said in a tweet.
And the pleasure did not stop there. The local police did not delay responding. With a tweet, they thanked the star of the sitcom "to be there for us", a rather oblique reference to the lyrics of the song friends theme song.
The Lancashire police announced Monday's arrest on Twitter, thanking Schwimmer and the London Metropolitan Police for their support. Of the more than 50,000 comments left under the initial publication on Facebook, none contained information that contributed to the arrest.
