TORONTO (AP) – The Houston Astros earned another title in AL West and won 100 wins for a second consecutive season, defeating the Toronto Blue Jays 4-1 on Tuesday night behind Alex Bregman's two-run homer.
Houston improved to 100-57 and was assured of first place hours later when Oakland (95-63) lost to Seattle. The Astros will open home playoff series against Cleveland on Oct. 5.
The Astros need three wins in their last five games to break the franchise record by winning a season, set in 1998.
Houston is 18-4 in September and 54-22 on the road, the two best in the majors.
Roberto Osuna only needed six shots in ninth place for his 20th stop on 21 occasions. Earlier Tuesday, the charges of assaulting Osuna were dropped because the complainant, who lives in Mexico, made it clear that she would not be going to Toronto to testify.
Josh James (2-0) allowed a run and four hits in five innings in his third league start.
Bregman went 2-for-5 and extended his record-breaking club record series safely on the road to 53 games.
Bregman hit his 31st circuit, a two-point run in Sam Gaviglio's first off-off. Sixth-round Billy McKinney cut the gap by half in the third period, but Houston expanded his lead in the sixth when Tyler White chased Gaviglio with RBI player Evan Gattis.
Gaviglio (3-9) allowed four points – three earned – and six hits in five or more innings, his fifth consecutive winless run.
MARINERS 10, ATHLETICS 8, 11 INNINGS
SEATTLE (AP) – Chris Herrmann's striker in the 11th inning helped Seattle defeat Oakland 10-8 and win the AL West for Houston, leaving Athletics with a game against the New York Yankees.
Seattle overcame an 8-5 deficit in the eighth inning and dropped the A-two and a half games behind the Yankees for a field advantage in the October 3 game. Oakland was 68-0 in the lead after seven innings.
Denard Span scored a double with Fernando Rodney in eighth place.
Blake Treinen made a shot at the close of his 38th stop in the ninth, but Nelson Cruz hit a doubles double, Ryon Healy reached Matt Chapman's third goal and Kyle Seager hit a mere RBI. Treinen only granted one shot in his previous 13 appearances.
Ben Gamel defeated Emilio Pagan (3-1) with a goal in 11th and Herrmann beat Andrew Romine and sent a 0-1 quick shot into the center right field.
Alex Colome (7-5) launched the 11th for the victory.
ROCKIES 10, PHILLIES 3
DENVER (AP) – David Dahl made a second night in a row, a three-point shot in the third and the Colorado Rockies beat the Philadelphia Phillies 10-3 on Tuesday night.
The Rockies' fifth consecutive victory earned them a half-match in front of St. Louis for the second win after the Cardinals lost 12-4 to Milwaukee. Colorado outscored Los Angeles Dodgers, leader of NL West, by 1 ½ in the evening and still has a chance to win their first division title. The Rockies have five games to play.
The hard blow was given by Dahl, who dubbed a fastball Vince Velasquez (9-12) left for his 12th circuit, almost to the same spot where Dahl hit a two-run circuit the day before. Dahl also added a scoring single as part of an evening 3 vs. 5 and 4 points.
The Rockies used seven relays, and DJ Johnson (1-0) won one to win his first league win.
BREWERS 12, CARDINALS 4
ST. LOUIS (AP) – Christian Yelich shot six shots, and Milwaukee hurt the St. Louis playoffs.
Ryan Braun went deep twice and Jesus Aguilar also signed in as Milwaukee won for the fifth time in six games and played in a half game against the top-ranked Chicago Cubs. Manny Pina had two hits and led a race, and pitcher Gio Gonzalez concocted an RBI single for his fourth win of the season.
The Cardinals (87-71) lost half-time to the Colorado Rockies (87-70), who beat Philadelphia 10-3 for the second wild card NL. Milwaukee (91-67) leads Colorado by 3½ games for the best joker.
Milwaukee scored each of its first six innings with two outs. Aguilar and Braun ran into two home runs in the first rookie, Austin Gomber (6-2), and Gonzalez chased the southpaw with his fourth shot.
Gonzalez lasted four innings. Taylor Williams (1-3), the third of seven Milwaukee pitchers, had three outs for the win.
PIRATES 6, CUBS 0
CHICAGO (AP) – Hitter Kris Bryant came out with a bruised left wrist, Mike Montgomery was hit hard over the innings of four and the Chicago Cubs lost again to Pittsburgh.
The Cubs missed an opportunity to clinch a fourth straight playoff run for the second time in as many nights. And their lead in NL Central against Milwaukee was reduced to half a game, while the Brewers beat St. Louis 12-4.
Chicago needed a win over Colorado defeat in Philadelphia to secure a playoff spot and extend a run that includes a world championship of troubled years. But the Cubs lost for the fourth time in sixth games while the Rockies won 10-3.
Bryant was hit by a throw from Chris Archer (3-3) in the fourth inning and was replaced in third base in the sixth end by Ian Happ, who was hit in the fifth.
Montgomery (5-6) allowed five runs and seven hits, and the Cubs were cleared for the 11th time this season.
NATIONAL 9, MARLINS 4
WASHINGTON (AP) – Max Scherzer has become the 17th thrower since 1900 to score 300 in one season, reaching that milestone by catching 10 goals in seven innings in Washington's win over Miami.
Scherzer (18-7) lowered his ERA to 2.53 by allowing one point in seven innings as he claimed a third consecutive award for Cy Young NL; He also won the 2013 honor in the AL for Detroit.
The right-hander reached the 300-point mark by putting Austin Dean on a 85-km / h slider at the end of a 10-innings for the second outing of the seventh.

Severino (19-8) is competing for Masahiro Tanaka and J.A. Happ to start the October 3 match against Oakland. The Yankees took a two-and-a-half league lead in Athletics, giving them the advantage on the field.
Adeiny Hechavarria defeated Jake Faria (4-4) before the third. Luke Voit had a double RBI, Beeks led Neil Walker with loaded bases, Miguel Andujar hit a sacrifice and Sanchez followed with his 17th circuit.
INDIANS 5, SOX WHITE 4
CHICAGO (AP) – Trevor Bauer took a step forward in Cleveland's playoff rotation by winning four innings, but Chicago overcame a two-run deficit and a ninth inning and defeated Cleveland.
Carlos Carrasco (16-10) followed Bauer with his second relief appearance this season. Carrasco pitched a free-kick in four innings and finished ninth with a 4-2 lead before the White Sox scored three times and scored a three-game losing streak.
The White Sox have to win one of their last five games to avoid their first season of 100 losses since 1970, when they went from 56 to 106.
White Sox star James Shields allowed four runs on six hits and four goals in six sets. Relief Ian Hamilton (1-2) pulled one in the ninth to win.

The 11th Dozier circuit of the season, off Raisel Iglesias (2-5), has forced Kansas City to win two victories in its last five games to avoid catching the record 106 losses in a season set in 2005.
Kevin McCarthy (5-4) worked on an unfulfilled jam in eighth place and won. The Reds charged the bases again in the ninth with two outs against Wily Peralta. But Joey Votto is imposed and Peralta earned his 14th win.
DIAMONDBACKS 4, DODGERS 3
PHOENIX (AP) – Eduardo Escobar defeated Kenta Maeda for the ninth inning and the Arizona Diamondbacks sealed the NL West race.
Los Angeles (88-70) had won 10 of their last 12 games to lead NL West, but Colorado (87-70) lost in the semifinal against Philadelphia 10-3.
Chris Taylor beat Brad Boxberger (3-7) ninth. Escobar sent Maeda's (8-10) quick full-throttle into the right-field seats, stopping Arizona's four-game losing streak.
David Peralta scored twice and two-handed hitter Ildemaro Vargas doubled one of the points scored in the seventh inning for Arizona (80-78).
Cody Bellinger hit a solo circuit for the Dodgers.
ANGELS 4, RANGERS 1
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) – Shohei Ohtani, Justin Upton and Kaleb Cowart drove in the races and Los Angeles Angels rallied with four points in the sixth inning to beat Texas.
Noe Ramirez (7-5) won the victory in relief.
The Rangers took a 1-0 lead in the third when Joey Gallo hit his 40th circuit of the season in the center of depth. Gallo has three more circuits than singles (37) this season.
Gallo became the fourth Rangers player to have had 40 consecutive seasons.
GIANTS 5, PADRES 4, 12 INNINGS
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) – Pitcher Madison Bumgarner had her first career success, an unmatched success in the 12th inning that led Gorkys Hernandez to San Francisco.
Hunter Pence slammed the ball and scored three times in what was probably one of his last games with San Francisco. Gregor Blanco had a two-point single and Evan Longoria added a double RBI.
The Giants won their 10th away win of the season and won only the fifth time in 22 games.
Freddy Galvis had four hits and a walk, continuing his offensive against San Diego. Eric Hosmer added a two-sleeve single.
At 63-95, the Padres are assured of their worst record since 2008, when they finished 63-99.
After Hernandez had tripled Rowan Wick (0-1) and no player left his seat on the bench, Giants coach Bruce Bochy turned to his best pitcher.
Bumgarner went on a strike call, then doubled Myers, a third-baseman, to win the winning round.
