Rumors have surfaced on the internet that John Cena is refusing to appear at the Crown Jewel PPV event in Saudi Arabia. WWE later issued a response to these on-going rumors.

It’s been heavily rumored on the internet as of late that WWE megastar and part-time wrestler John Cena is refusing to appear at the Crown Jewel PPV in Saudi Arabia, despite being advertised for a World Cup tournament. This doesn’t come as much of a surprise considering the controversy that’s being surrounded the WWE’s involvement with Saudi Arabia.

These rumors can be traced back to when Barstool Sports contributor Robbie Fox stated on his official Twitter account that both John Cena and even Smackdown star Daniel Bryan wanted out of the event. Fox also gave another tweet that Cena was “100%” off the card while claiming that he was still waiting on the confirmation of Bryan’s status.

“Still awaiting confirmation on Bryan, but John Cena is still 100 percent off the show,” Robbie Fox stated(via Twitter).

“As reported by John Pollock, the WWE were hopeful they’d come to terms with Cena, but there’s been zero change on John’s end.”

It’s also worth noting according to a recent report on the Pro Wrestling Sheet website that a WWE representative issued a statement responding to these rumors. However, the statement hadn’t confirmed nor denied the rumors for both John Cena and Daniel Bryan’s status for Crown Jewel.

“As always, we maintain an open line of communication with our performers and will address each situation accordingly,” WWE responded (via Pro Wrestling Sheet).

With news being covered by mainstream media outlets on the murder of Saudi Journalist Jamal Khashoggi, it was speculated that WWE may have wanted to call a quits on the event in order to deflect negative publicity. Despite this, Vince McMahon has announced during an earnings call that WWE will go on with the event in Saudi Arabia, as the Wrestling Observer reported.

With questions being left unanswered for this whole situation, it’s going to be an interesting turn of event on whether or not Cena will be wrestling at the event, considering his possible disapproval may give WWE a worse reputation.
