Rumors of Jimmy Butler: Riders chasing the star of Timberwolves

On Wednesday, Jimmy Butler reportedly asked for an exchange with the Timberwolves.

The Cavaliers are looking to trade with the Timberwolves for All-Star Jimmy Butler, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.com reports.

According to Wojnarowski, Cleveland owner Dan Gilbert met with Minnesota owner Glen Taylor at the NBA Board of Governors meeting on Friday.

After initially announcing that Butler had requested an exchange with the Timberwolves, it was reported that the team was planning to keep it. However, it was later reported that Taylor asked other teams to contact him directly to make offers to Butler.

In 2014, Taylor and Gilbert each played a role in the exchange that sent the number one choice for 2014, Andrew Wiggins, Minnesota for Kevin Love.

While Butler planned to miss the start of the training camp and Taylor's initial goal was to trade him "in the next few days," the Timberwolves will probably try to reach an agreement as soon as possible. When Butler asked for the first time to be moved, it was reported that he was interested in going to the Clippers, Knicks or Nets.

On Saturday, the Timberwolves reportedly agreed to a $ 190 million five-year extension with Karl-Anthony Towns, which would likely prevent them from signing a deal with Butler if he decided to become a free agent next summer.

Last season, Butler averaged 22.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 2.0 steals.
