A Russian oligarch who bought a mansion from President Donald Trump was "arrested for interrogation" by the Monegasque police in connection with a corruption investigation, The Financial Times reports. The Russian oligarch Dmitry Rybolovlev, who resides in Monaco, was reportedly arrested by police on Tuesday. The detention is linked to an investigation into the "corruption" and "traffic of influence" carried out by the Monegasque authorities. The former Minister of Justice of Monaco resigned from his post because of the investigation. the Time also reports that individuals may be detained for up to 48 hours without being charged under French law.
"We regret the violation of the confidentiality of the investigation that this information represents, and we request that the presumption of innocence with respect to Mr. Rybolovlev be strictly observed," said a lawyer from Rybolovlev. According to Forbes, Rybolovlev would have a value of about $ 6.8 billion and would have made most of his fortune with Russian fertilizer producer Uralkali. The oligarch would have paid $ 95 million to Trump for a mansion in Palm Beach in 2008, double the price of Trump's purchase of the property in 2004.
