A linebacker from the Rutgers University football team was accused Tuesday of having participated in a plot to assassinate two family members of a friend, announced authorities.
Izaia Bullock, 22, a student at Linden University, is the subject of two counts of attempted first degree murder and two counts of first degree conspiracy to commit murder.
Bullock was sacked Tuesday from the Rutgers football team. The university announced in a statement that it would be subject to disciplinary proceedings.
Middlesex County Attorney Andrew Carey and Rutgers Police Chief Kenneth Cop announced his arrest and charges in a statement Tuesday night.
They claimed that the charges had been laid after determining that Monday, "Bullock had initiated a plot to murder family members of an acquaintance".
The targets, who are not affiliated with Rutgers, have not been hurt, said a spokeswoman for the prosecutor.
According to his player page on the sports site of the university, Bullock played linebacker and halfback at Linden High School and then at the Gattaca Football Club.
Gattaca is a junior college-like private program that helps high school graduates get recruited through NCAA football programs.
Bullock will be held at the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center before his first appearance in the New Brunswick Superior Court.
