COLUMBUS, Ohio – Here's all Ohio Acting Head Coach Ryan Day said after the Buckeyes beat Rutgers, 52-3, on Saturday.

Once again, I am very honored to represent such a great university and a great tradition of football. I thought our guys came out and played hard today on both sides of the ball. Defensively, they smothered their attack, so we went into a rhythm early in the game and we thought we were playing fast.
Q. Every week, he may be a new hitter. It's good to be an offensive coordinator rather than the other side of the ball.
dayYeah, I mean, you know, the thing we're talking about all the time is that you just do not know what's going to happen. For example, last week Terry McLaurin had a big game. Then we turn around and now Johnnie Dixon hits two circuits. And J.K. knock for some games. And we had a long pass that was recalled.
And so you do not know who will get the action. But when you are a team player and you do not care about who attracts attention, you can be a special group.
Q. Ryan, with all this with all the playmakers, you involved Parris early, gave him the ball on the running game. Was it an idea, four keys last week, and got it started quickly, was that something you wanted to try to do?
day: You know, overall, we wanted to throw the ball a bit first. We did that. It was more about what they gave us. And sometimes, when you call a room, you do not know where it will go. Sometimes you do. Obviously, every time Parris touches the ball, good things happen for us. It's always a priority for us.
But I thought we had done a good job by throwing the ball early and in the end.
Q. Dwayne at this point, we talked about this week of how he gets the ball quickly and all that. You are going into a crazy environment and a big game next week. Just Dwayne who handles everything, whether it's reading a defense in a room, whether it's just the week, how does Dwayne Haskins handle everything, right now?
day: Increase each practice, each game. And build as we go. It will not be perfect. We know that. Try to prepare each week for the game and make sure everyone starts well. But I think his preparation was good this week and he came out and played well.
Q. What stands out in your mind, when I say Johnnie Dixon? It looks like all the other catches are touched, et cetera. And after that, did Dwayne just read those articles? If the message is there, tap on it, then go back down? Or were you targeting Johnnie thoroughly?
day: Johnnie is really a special young man. He gets up in front of the team, guys listen. He has the respect of his teammates. Very well thought when he is in the team. So much respect for everyone. In terms of skills, he is a great player. He is on the field and he can follow the ball. On those games, we were trying to take a shot. There was a small corner on the ground. We thought that if we had the good look, we would take this game.
Q. Chase Young, did you talk to him after the match of the situation, of the two sports he knows he can play next week? But what was your message, I suppose?
day: I did not have the opportunity to talk with him. Obviously, whenever we want to play with the emotion and not let the emotion play with you, see. So, this will be addressed.
Q. What is your assessment of how Tate played today, long touchdown pass, long, very good race, just his development and the way he played?
day: I thought you could see what Tate can do today, which is great. He is 10 years old and throws the ball. And ran because I think about 90 yards from something. And he can beat you with his feet and beat you with his arm. And that's what makes him a special player. And we had it in the early rhythm.
Same thing, a few quick passes here and there and the long strike of the third row, intensified, makes a great throw. And Terry did a good job there. He's better too. And so if we can continue to build, then we are going to have something really good.
Q. I know this has been a balancing act for you, saving time on the ground, but also protecting your depth at the quarterback. What was your opinion when you saw him getting hit late in the game, staying a little behind, and how do you feel in the evolution of your thinking?
day: Never good to see a guy take a shot like this. Really proud of the way he jumped back. The wind has been eliminated, it has been hit hard, but it shows the competitiveness and robustness we know it is. It was awesome.
As far as the depth is concerned, we are just working on it. We know we are trying to get Chris, Matt and Corey more and more involved so that we can continue to build in depth as the season progresses.
Q. I know that the Ohio State has scored a lot of points for many years, but I get the impression that it is a different point or more evolved or more explosive than in recent years. Do you feel the same when you participate in this day-to-day day, namely that the offense hit another gear?
day: I think we have a big group of guys here. We have a lot of talent in attack. And I think that combined with the tempo was great. We played fast at times, but not as fast as against the Oregon State and it was a bit by design. I thought we had good games based on what they gave us and we took a few strokes in the passing game before hitting them.
Q. Last week the defense awarded 31 points. I know that they were not particularly pleased with the way they played. Would you like to evaluate their game and have you felt a resolution this week with them?
dayYeah, it's obvious that Greg and all the guys in defense have a high level of defending themselves. And they did not like to put that number like that. So this week we called Nick at the end of the meeting – we met the team at the end of the meeting, he explained how this week was a difficult week. And they had the guys.
You could see it during the game. They were in the backfield, I felt like all the other games, really creating havoc. I thought that they were playing with a benefit, which was great to go from the front.
