Ryan Day, of the Ohio State, will receive a $ 487,000 bonus by the end of the month for his work at the head of the Buckeyes football team in the absence of Urban Meyer. Meyer will lose more than $ 500,000 as a result of his recent suspension.
Day signed the addendum to the contract for the bonus on Monday, according to documents released Wednesday by Ohio State. Meyer praised Day's work as an "elite" over the past six weeks, during which the number 4 Ohio State has won its first three games of the season.

Meyer returned full-time this week after serving a three-game suspension for failing to meet university standards when he completed a series of bad matches. Meyer's salary was reduced by $ 570,507.68 following the suspension, according to a separate paper released Wednesday by the university. Ohio President Michael Drake sent a letter to Meyer on August 30 describing the agreed pay cut. The letter was signed by Meyer and athletic director Gene Smith.
Gene Smith was also suspended for the first three weeks of September following the same week-long investigation at the university that led to Meyer's suspension. Smith received $ 60,711.16 from his annual salary of $ 1.4 million.
The university also agreed to pay the law firm that conducted the investigation for $ 500,000. The final bill for this work has not yet been made public.
