Ryan Lochte, Olympic gold medalist, will seek treatment for an "alcohol addiction" that will last years after police were called for an incident early Thursday at his hotel in California, which did not resulted in no arrest, confirmed PEOPLE.
"It was a minor thing," said Lochte's agent Jeff Ostrow. "But what matters most is that Ryan gets the help he needs."

According to TMZ, the Newport Beach police was called Thursday in a hotel after Lochte, 34, attempted to knock on his bedroom door while he was intoxicated.

Lochte – who has won a dozen Olympic swimming medals, including six gold – has promised to continue competing at the top of his sport, despite a one-year ban imposed in July because he had received an intravenous infusion "greater than 100 ml".
"It's not ideal, but Ryan is in an incredible situation and he will be able to compete again in a year," Ostrow told PEOPLE this summer.
