Ryder Cup 2018 – Can the United States come back and shock Europe by overcoming a deficit of four points

[ad_1]

PARIS – The United States had come here already. In 1999, at Brookline, the Americans entered the final day by looking at the same 10-6 deficit.

At the time, Captain Ben Crenshaw left a thought unanswered Sunday night: "I feel good about it".

He was right, because the United States made its big comeback in the history of the Ryder Cup.

In 2012, in Medinah, Europe equaled that return, eliminating a 10-6 lead for a spectacular win on the road.

So, yes, there is a chance.

Here are some of the games that will decide the Ryder Cup:

I hate to say that it was finished before Sunday but BUT …

Rory McIlroy against Justin Thomas

What to expect: The most glamorous match of the day could be the first to come out of the box. Thomas, a rookie of the Ryder Cup, showed the most fire – and the most play possible – for the first two days. McIlroy did not hesitate to mix it with American fans here in France, including beating some players on Saturday afternoon. The two were in the same match then, when Thomas and Jordan Spieth got the best of McIlroy and Ian Poulter.

Paul Casey vs. Brooks Koepka

What to expect: Casey sits twice; The choice of the European captain was on the agenda with his iron during a challenge The National Golf. His precision will be a key to him. Koepka, meanwhile, had moments when he had understood everything, and he had moments when the balloon was flying in all directions. So, which Sunday will it be?

Justin Rose vs Webb Simpson

What to expect: Rose, FedEx Cup champion, is 2-1 in all three games. He made some important putts to counter the threats of the Americans in these two victories. Simpson, after being away Saturday morning, helped the United States win one of his few victories on Saturday. Both will have similar approaches to the National Golf Sunday. It's a question of who makes the putts.

Jon Rahm vs. Tiger Woods

What to expect: A week after winning the championship, Woods has struggled throughout this Ryder Cup, posting a 0-3 record with his partners Patrick Reed and Bryson DeChambeau. He has not won a Ryder Cup game since 2010, going 0-6-1 during this period. Rahm, at his first Ryder Cup, is still looking for his first point – or half-point – this week.

Tommy Fleetwood vs. Tony Finau

What to expect: Fleetwood, with his partner Francesco Molinari, organized an unprecedented show. Together they went 4-0, the first time that a European tandem did it. No European rookie of the Ryder Cup has won more than four points. Do you want to bet against him?

Prediction of Sunday Match 5 – Tommy Fleetwood vs. Tony Finau

Ian Poulter vs. Dustin Johnson

What to expect: Is there a way to have more opposing personalities on the ground paired? Poulter will hit his chest and try to become a frenzy. Johnson will just nod and look after his things. (Wait, Johnson has introduced a light hand pump this week, to the shock of almost everyone). Poulter will be happy to move away from Spieth and Thomas. He was 0-2 in the matches involving them and 1-0 when not in the same group as the two young Americans. An important note: Johnson is 3-0 in single Ryder Cup.

Thorbjorn Olesen vs. Jordan Spieth

What to expect: Well, Olesen will be rested. He has not played since Friday morning. He missed Friday's four-game session. He was the only European to watch both sessions on Saturday. Spieth will play for the fifth time this week. He also has a terrible story in singles. He is a 0-5 combined with matches of single Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup.

Prediction in singles Sunday match 7 – Jordan Spieth against Thorbjørn Olesen

Sergio Garcia vs. Rickie Fowler

What to expect: Garcia was a controversial choice as a captain choice by Thomas Bjorn. It worked this week. Garcia, who has not played well all season, enters this one 2-1 for the week and shows signs of his Ryder Cup magic for years. Fowler has been erratic. After a win Friday morning, alongside Dustin Johnson, he lost two games in a row.

Francesco Molinari vs. Phil Mickelson

What to expect: Phil Mickelson played so badly Friday afternoon that US captain Jim Furyk did not send Saturday. Molinari, meanwhile, was unstoppable from start to green. Looking for the most unbalanced match on the board? That's it.

Sunday Prediction – Match of 9 – Francesco Molinari vs. Phil Mickelson

Tyrrell Hatton against Patrick Reed

What to expect: Will Captain America make an appearance? He is in conversation with Mickelson and Woods for the worst week among Americans. Admittedly, both of his losses came with Woods at his side. Hatton confessed that he was surprised that he is managing the pressure of the Ryder Cup. Let's see how it goes for one more day.

Henrik Stenson vs. Bubba Watson

What to expect: The big question is – is this one even important? With the United States down four points ahead of Sunday's singles, this is one of those games that could become useless. If it counts, Watson, like Spieth, does not have a good story in singles. He is 0-3 in singles at the Ryder Cup.

Sunday Singles Match 11 – Bubba Watson Vs. Henrik Stenson

Alexander Noren vs. Bryson DeChambeau

What to expect: See the question above. Will it matter? If this is the case, remember that Noren is familiar with Golf National. He won the Open de France here earlier this year. DeChambeau is still looking for his first points in the Ryder Cup.
