ST. LOUIS • The body of a missing St. Louis ballet dancer was found Wednesday morning in a rural lake in Missouri.
Raffaella Maria Stroik was reported missing on Tuesday after a national park ranger found her vehicle unattended in Mark Twain Lake National Park, about 160 km northwest of St. Louis.
About 150 people, including maritime and air rescue teams, searched the area where the car was found Wednesday Wednesday around 9 am, Sgt. Eric Brown.
A private jet pilot located what he thought was a person in the lake and Stroik 's body was found in the water around 9:40, according to the road patrol.
The patrol indicated that she was continuing her investigations into the death, although no criminal act was suspected. More details will be released Wednesday afternoon, the patrol announced.
Family members participated in the search on Wednesday, but declined to comment.
"I grew up watching the 1993 version of the New York City Ballet Nutcracker," she said in a St. Louis Ballet video of the new dancers released in September. "And so coming to St. Louis to dance with this person whom I saw growing up was so exciting."
Stroik was also ballet teacher at the Expressions Academy of Dance near Belleville, according to the studio's website.
She studied dance at Indiana University where she performed the lead roles, including the lead role in "Giselle", the Sugar Plum fairy in "The Nutcracker", and the Swan Queen at Balanchine's Swan Lake. after his biography of the Metro East dance studio.
She grew up in South Bend, Indiana, and was the daughter of Duncan Stroik, architect and long-time professor of architecture at the University of Notre Dame, according to the South Bend Tribune.
Stroik was an active member of the group of young Catholic adults in the Saint-Louis area and frequented the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis, according to the Facebook page of the Catholic Youth Group.
It was last seen alive around 10:30 am on Monday at Whole Foods Market, located at 1160 Town and Country Crossing Drive in Town and Country.
