Saints coach Sean Payton damaged the locker room at Paul Brown Stadium on Sunday.
Payton confirmed to reporters on Monday that he had set off a fire alarm before New Orleans's 51-14 victory over the Bengals. He said that he "just needed the noise to stop."
The strong distraction that preceded the match clearly did not deter the Saints Sunday, who largely dominated the Bengals to win their eighth straight game. https://t.co/rWZMUOT374 pic.twitter.com/1V6L6e5SgK

The stadium had problems with its fire alarm shortly before the kickoff. Payton said that he had triggered the alarm for practical purposes and not as a motivational tactic.
"I'll be happy to pay the repair costs," said Payton (via ESPN). "And I see … this organization as close allies and people for whom we have a lot of respect, the same way with Marvin (Lewis) (coach of Cincinnati).
"It was just something that had happened – and so that we could get ready for the game, I thought it was important."
The Bengals issued a statement addressing the incident at The Times-Picayune after the match.
"We are aware of this situation and have been in contact with the authorities, but we have nothing else about it at the moment," the statement said.
New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees scored three touchdowns in the win as Alvin Kamara added two runs to the floor. The victory was the eighth in a row of the Saints.
