Sales in full swing for Woodward's presidency book on fear, Trump

NEW YORK (AP) – Bob Woodward's "fear" is spreading rapidly.

Woodward's account of a dysfunctional White House Trump has already sold more than 750,000 copies, said Wednesday Simon & Schuster, a day after the arrival of the book in store.

"Fear" is virtually guaranteed to join Michael Wolff's "Fire and Fury" as a million sales of Trump. The pace of sales, which includes print, e-books, and audio editing, is among the fastest in memory for undocumented work. In 2004, Bill Clinton's memoirs "My Life" sold more than a million copies in eight days.

"Fear" has dominated political headlines since reports on this topic were released last week. The book describes Trump as a misinformed and dishonest president and the West Wing staff tries to minimize the damage. As with "Fire and Fury" and other anti-Trump books, the president condemned "Fear" as being fake. Some former White House officials who spoke with Woodward tried to distance themselves from the book.

President Eric Trump's son appeared Wednesday on "Fox & Friends" to denounce the book and was criticized by critics for his choice of language.

"You can write a sensational and insane book, and CNN will certainly take you there because they love to destroy the president," said Trump. "That means you sell three extra pounds, you make three extra shekels."

The reference to "three extra shekels" has been criticized by people who thought they had antisemitic nuances. Woodward is not Jewish.

Woodward, who became famous in the 1970s for his reports on the Watergate, wrote several bestsellers about the presidents in office. "Fear" has more pre-orders than any other book in Simon & Schuster's history, according to the publisher, who has already published bestsellers such as "Living History" by Hillary Clinton and "Steve Jobs" by Walter Isaacson.
