Head coach Todd Bowles confirmed Friday that quarterback Sam Darnold of the New York Jets would sit for the second game in a row. This action sets up the second oldest quarterback match in the history of the NFL: 39-year-old Josh McCown against Tom Brady, 41, of the New England Patriots.

This will be either the largest gap between the starting shifts or the second combined age in importance, depending on whether Sam Darnold starts or not.
Brady was restricted to training this week because of a knee injury, but he should play Sunday.
The announcement of Bowles was not a surprise since Darnold has not trained since he was footed on November 4th against the Miami Dolphins. The rookie took modest action this week, dressing for practice and jogging sideways, but was not allowed to participate – not even in light positioning exercises.
The Jets are hoping Darnold, 3-6 as a starter, will be able to come back in next week's road match against the Tennessee Titans.
Once again, the Jets will turn to McCown, their $ 10 million backup solution. The combined age for McCown and Brady is 80 years and 258 days, making it the second-oldest pair of competitors since the 1970 merger, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.
