Sam Smith has retired from his performance at the iHeartRadio Music Festival on Friday.
The 26-year-old singer, who was to join a team of stars, including Mariah Carey and Jason Aldean, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas canceled "due to unforeseen circumstances".
"Dear everyone, because of unforeseen circumstances that occurred after the rehearsal, it became clear that I am unfortunately unable to play at the iHeart Radio Music Festival in Vegas tonight," Smith said on Twitter.
"I'm so sorry about this and I want to apologize to all my fans, all my love, always, Sam x."
According to Variety, citing sources, the winner of the Grammy Award, who reportedly complained of a sore throat, lost his voice.
Childish Gambino spoke earlier than his departure time to replace Smith.
