San Diego has consumed less alcohol than all other US cities in 2017: Delphi Behavioral Health Group

The San Diegans spent more money on alcohol last year than any other metropolitan area in the country, according to a new study by Delphi Behavioral Health Group.

On average, every resident of San Diego has spent about $ 1,112 in alcohol in 2017, according to the study. Seattle was $ 126 behind in second place.

The San Diegans spent the third biggest total in 2016, $ 2 behind Minneapolis-St. Paul. San Francisco spent the most this year with $ 1,131, according to the study.

The study broke down the average annual spending of Americans and found that alcohol accounted for 0.8% of their total purchases.

Housing ranked first at 33%, followed by transportation and food with 15.8% and 12.6% respectively.

Spending on alcohol has risen nearly 57% since 1996, according to the study. This means that Americans spend an average of $ 175 more per year on alcohol than they did in 1996.

Americans aged 45 to 54 spent the most on alcohol in 2016, but not much, says the study. Other age groups spent only a few tens of dollars less for this year.

The west coast has spent more than any other region, but not much.

The Delphi Behavioral Health group used data from the Bureau of Labor Statistic's Consumer Expenditure Survey.
