A mother from Seminole County was charged with manslaughter by manslaughter of a child for leaving his one-year-old daughter in a hot car for seven hours, according to the county sheriff's office from Seminole.
"The first indications are that the mother went to work this morning and forgot that the child was in the vehicle. Investigators are still working to establish a calendar of events, "said the sheriff's office on social media Friday.
The child's death is the latest in a series of recent incidents in Florida in which parents have left their children locked in a car in the hot sun. In the Seminole County incident, Kailyn Pollard, 29, of Sorrento, is accused of leaving her daughter Kit Noelle Pollard in her car while she was working from 9 am to 4 pm. at iQ Power, a solar energy company.
According to a report by WKMG, Pollard was supposed to drop her daughter at daycare on Friday but did not do it. She went to work by car and at the end of her work day she went to an olive garden nearby to pick up food, then to a Wawa convenience store. in Sanford to refuel, according to detectives. That's when, at 16:30, she "finally realized that her daughter was in the back," WKMG reported.
Temperatures in Sanford Friday reached a record 96 degrees according to the National Weather Service, with the stifling heat continuing Saturday with a high of 94.
Pollard is being held without bail.
