A professional footballer was found dead in an almost decapitated bush and his genitals cut off.
Police said Daniel Correa, 24, was killed in a "very violent situation".
The body of the Sao Paulo midfielder was discovered by passersby in the city of Sao Jose dos Pinhais, in the Curitiba region.
Reports in Brazil claimed that the cause of death was classified as "knife wounded".
According to local media, he was reportedly tortured.
A police officer said: "Since the appearance of the body, the situation was very violent," said a police officer.
"The man had two deep cuts in his neck, his head was almost beheaded and his genitals were cut off."

The midfielder crossed the ranks of the youths in Cruzeiro before joining Botafogo.
He signed for Sao Paulo in 2014, but was recently loaned to Sao Bento in the division below.
A statement from Sao Paulo, with whom he had a contract until December of this year, said: The Sao Paulo football club deeply regrets the death of midfielder Daniel Correa Freitas.
"The club empowers and presents its condolences to the family of the athlete."
Sao Bento also issued a statement that reads: "Sao Bento mourns the death of midfielder Daniel.
"The club management regrets the incident and sympathizes with the family and friends of the player in this time of deep sadness."
