Actors Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Sarah Hyland – who play Mitchell Pritchett and Haley Dunphy respectively on the ABC series – have leaked some details about the series on Friday.

Hyland, 27, told the Hollywood Reporter that "the worst is yet to come," referred to Shelley Long's character, DeDe Pritchett, murdered in Wednesday's episode. The new plot point, she said, "was shock, that's for sure," but she was vague about how that would affect her own role.

The co-creator of the series, Christopher Lloyd, told Entertainment Weekly in September that a major character would die on the show while the ABC hit comedy was staging "bigger events of life" in its tenth season.

Ferguson admitted that he was aware of DeDe's disappearance for a while.

Online critics on the fact that death had been too expensive, since Dede did not play an important role in the sitcom, left the actor stunned.

The plot point received support from Hyland, who described "Good Grief" as a "beautiful episode".
