The assertion of Sarah Huckabee Sanders, press secretary at the White House, that a Virginia restaurant would have been fired may be a violation of ethics because it has been confirmed by a official Twitter account of the government.
It is the opinion expressed by Walter Shaub, a former chief of federal ethics who worked under Barack Obama and Donald Trump. His comment was echoed by others, with a member of the Democratic House calling for an ethical inquiry into the tweet.
Sanders and his family tried dinner at the Red Hen in Lexington, VA on Friday. They were asked to leave by the owner, and Sanders later confirmed the incident, saying that she left quietly and that the request to leave was attributed to her affiliation with President Donald Trump.
"Last night, I was informed by the owner of Red Hen in Lexington [Virginia] to leave because I work for POTUS and I left politely, "she tweeted. "Her actions tell a lot more about her than about me, I always do my best to treat people, including those with whom I do not agree, respectfully and I will continue to do so.
The ejection sparked a wave of online activity along the watershed. The Red Hen website was taken offline on demand, and the restaurant's Yelp and Google reviews had to be washed out of negative comments while Sanders fans and critics weighed in.
Shaub, who has been a fierce critic of the administration, said in his own tweet: "Sanders used her official account to condemn a private company for personal reasons … she may lobate attacks of her time without use his official position. "

The owner of the red hen also weighed on his reasoning by asking Sanders to leave.
"I babbled a bit," said Stephanie Wilkinson. "But I've had my point of view in a polite and straightforward way." I explained that the restaurant has certain standards that I think it must respect, such as the following: Honesty, Compassion and Cooperation I said, "I would like to ask you to leave."
Sanders, said Wilkinson, replied, "It's fine, I'm going to go." Others at his table followed. "They offered to pay. I said no. This is on the house. "
The owner also said, "I would have redone the same thing. We just felt that there are times in time when people have to live out their beliefs. It seemed like one. "
Sarah, I know you do not even care a little bit about ethical rules, but using your official account for this is a clear violation of 5 CFR 2635.702 (a). It's as if an ATF agent was taking out his badge when a restaurant was trying to throw it out. https://t.co/Fj6OfBAdew
