The satanic temple organization claimed that Netflix and Warner Bros. had copied the image of Baphomet – a winged figure, half-man, half-goat worshiped by various occult groups – in his program "The Frosty Adventures of Sabrina".
A reproduction of the figure appeared in four episodes of the series without the permission of the group, said the group.
But the group leader said the trial was settled and that "the unique elements of the satanic temple's Baphomet statue" would be mentioned in the episodes of the series.
"Many people immediately supported our copyright claim," wrote Greaves. "However, a lot of people have flooded us with legal analysis regarding hate mail and wheelchairs."
The settlement details, including whether or not it was financial compensation, were not disclosed in the statement, and neither Netflix nor Warner Bros.. did not immediately respond to CNN's request for comment.
"The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina" is a fantastic drama starring Kiernan Shipka as a teenager in a witch family.
Greaves was particularly saddened by the depiction of the monument in the show, writing on Twitter that he "appropriated the design of our copyrighted monuments to promote their Asian fictions in satanic panic ".
He suggested that the group was discriminated against, adding, "I am surprised that anyone is questioning why we would seek legal recourse against Sabrina with the help of our monument." Would it be so understanding that a fictional show using a real mosque? HQ of a terrorist cell? A fictional tale about blood libel involving real-world Jews? "
The Satanic Temple is a group based in Salem, Massachusetts, which states that its mission is "to encourage benevolence and empathy among all peoples". Members do not worship Satan, says the group.
The figure of Baphomet was associated with the Templars' Catholic military order of the twelfth century and has since been venerated by occultists, including Aleister Crowley.
