Prime Minister Imran Khan pointed out on Sunday that Saudi Arabia has always supported Pakistan in difficult times.

The Prime Minister's statement was issued on the occasion of Saudi National Day on 23 September each year.

Pakistan appreciates its relations with Saudi Arabia, he said. "All Pakistanis want Saudi Arabia to progress."

A strong Saudi Arabia means a strong Muslim world, he added.

On Thursday, Islamabad had invited Saudi Arabia to become the third partner in the Beijing-funded corridor and road for major infrastructure projects in Pakistan.

The announcement was made after a two-day trip to Saudi Arabia by Prime Minister Imran Khan, who was to seek financial assistance from the ally of Islamabad to help Pakistan cope with a monetary crisis.

"Saudi Arabia is the first country we have invited as a third country partner of the CPEC," said Minister of Information Chaudhry, while referring to the CPEC, the Pakistani part of the infrastructure of the belt and road.

Mr Chaudhry said that a Saudi delegation would come to Pakistan the first week of October, including the Saudi Minister of Finance and Energy, which should constitute a "foundation for a very big partnership".
