Science says that the smell of sandalwood could be the answer to baldness

The smell of sandalwood could be the answer to baldness.

British researchers have discovered that the substances that create sandalwood scent also stimulate hair growth in human scalp tissues.

To be able to smell sandalwood, odorous molecules trigger odor receptors in our nose.

But it turns out that the outside of the hair follicles also has odor receptors.

The researchers found that application of synthetic sandalwood odor molecules to human scalp samples stimulates hair growth by reducing cell death and stimulating the production of growth factors in the hair root.

The results of the study by Ralf Paus of the University of Manchester and his colleagues are published in the journal Nature Communications.

The researchers suggest that olfactory receptors could serve as a target for the development of hair loss therapies.
