Two girls, 2 and 4, witnessed horror as their father was shot dead during a camping trip to southern California, reports said.

Tristan Beaudette, 35, from Irvine, California, was bleeding from a chest injury when MPs found her in an early tent on a Friday at a state park campground. Malibu Creek. The girls were unscathed.

"And then everything was taken away, by a mortal shot in the middle of the night, in front of her two young girls," said the GoFundMe page. "It does not happen for a second that we are not dealing with the absurdity of this crime."

MPs said they had no leads, no suspects and no motives, reported KCBS Los Angeles.

"We are working like a homicide at this point," said Lt. Rodney Moore of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office at the Los Angeles Times. "We collect evidence … it will take time."

The newspaper reports that the area where the shooting took place is frequented by hikers and hikers one day.
