The sixth edition of Merriam-Webster's Official Scrabble Players Dictionary includes 300 words such as twerk, beatdown and sriracha. And he finally adds a two-letter common word that players have been waiting for decades: OK.
"For a living language, the only constant is change," said Peter Sokolowski, editor-in-chief for Merriam-Webster. "Scrabble's official dictionary of players evolves to follow English as it is used today."
Modernization of the game's lexicon can be seen in newly added words like bitcoin, facepalm and emoji.
The entries like sheeple (the docile and easily influenced people) and the listicle come from Internet jargon.
"Additions like these will add a new dimension to the evening, making the game even more entertaining and relevant," said Jonathan Berkowitz, president of Hasbro Brands.
The updated Player Dictionary continues to follow some of the most important rules in the game. Words must always come from the standard dictionary. No abbreviations, capitalized words, or punctuated words are allowed.
"Scrabble has been a basic game for 70 years and we are excited to introduce the game in its next decade," added Berkowitz.
Other words added include, yowza, macaron, zomboid (zombie-like) and puggle.
