Philip Rivers is on fire again to start the season. Number 17 made 75 attempts out of 108 (69.4%) for 906 yards with eight touchdowns and one interception for a score of 115.7. His first target is Keenan Allen, who leads the team with catches (17) and receiving yards (219). Meanwhile, Mike Williams has appeared as a deadly weapon, totaling three touchdowns in his last two games. On the field, Melvin Gordon continues to be a touch machine because his 26 points are the highest in AFC and the second in NFL for non-kickers. His 316 total scrimmage yards rank fourth in the AFC, while his counterpart, Austin Ekeler, ranks sixth with 295 yards. Ekeler also ranks second in the NFL in yards per race averaging 8.15.
Offense for the 49ers
The San Francisco offense will be terribly different this week after starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo suffered an injury at the end of season 3 of the ACL. C.J. Beathard, who was the team's third-round pick (104th overall) in the 2017 NFL Draft, takes his place. Beathard played in seven games with five starts last season, completing 123 attempts on 224 (54.9%) for 1,430 yards, four touchdowns and six interceptions. Beathard will likely target tight end George Kittle, who leads the team with 12 catches and 191 yards. Meanwhile, the Chargers could expect a heavy dose of Matt Breida, who leads the league with 274 yards rushing and 8.6 yards per run. Veteran Alfred Morris was also effective, carrying the ball to the highest level, 40 times for 153 yards and one touchdown.
In defense for the shippers
Derwin James continues to turn heads for the Bolts and is looking to do more with the 49ers. He currently leads the team in total tackles (23), passes defenses (four), sacks (2.0) and interceptions (one) while placing second in sacks (2.0). James is not the only rookie to make his presence. Kyzir White, third choice of the team with 19 tackles, is the third choice of the team.
In defense for the 49ers
The 49ers' defense is led by linebacker Fred Warner, with 33 tackles in the lead in the NFC and third in the NFL. Meanwhile, defensive tackle DeForest Buckner took the lead this season, finishing fifth in the league with 3.5 sacks. Finally, Richard Sherman has played an important role in high school over his entire career, but his status is rising after leaving last week's match due to an injury.
