Seahawks get 2 calls to win Packers

We are still getting used to the new capture rule. The Seattle Seahawks probably like it.

Two huge calls from officials got the Seahawks out of action on Thursday night in a tight 27-24 win over the Packers. The second was particularly important, as on Tyler Lockett's 34-yard pass on the Packers' 16-yard line at the end of the fourth quarter, it appeared that the ball hit the ground and broke off. But this was called a catch, the Packers did not challenge, and the Seahawks ended up scoring the decisive touchdown a few games later.

Fox expert Mike Pereira said he thought Lockett's appeal would have been reversed if it was disputed, and that he was usually right to make such proclamations. But Packers coach Mike McCarthy has never been challenged. Green Bay had lost two downtime, leaving only one, which may have affected his thinking process.

Whatever may be the reason why McCarthy did not set things up, the Packers lost and are now in very bad shape at 4-5-1.

Seahawks benefit from two calls

Two controversial captures helped the Seahawks. One of the Lockett was huge, but one in the third quarter also had a big impact. In this regard, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll took up the challenge. The other seemed to have been incomplete.

In the third quarter, third and seventh on their own six-yard line, Russell Wilson pitched to the depth of David Moore. Moore had it, then he was shaken and bounced out of bounds. It looked like an incompleteness based on years of conditioning of the capture rule, but the capture rule has changed. Carroll knows it. He challenged, the recovery showed that Moore had enough time for it to be a catch. It could have happened anyway, but the Seahawks have received the call. Instead of the Seahawks on their 6-yard line, Moore was 27 yards and a fumble out of bounds. The Seahawks training allowed the Packers team to reduce the lead to 21-20. If the Seahawks got the better of their 6s, the Packers may have had points in training. It was a big swing.

Then came Lockett's grip which, after careful consideration, did not seem like a catch. Pereira did not think so. This led the Seahawks to take the lead from Wilson to Ed Dickson a few games later, with just over three minutes to play.

Packers leave the game spinning

The Packers had opportunities. They started strong, taking a 14-3 lead, and gave that lead. The offense did not do much in the second half, with the exception of a long pass from Aaron Rodgers to Davante Adams. Even this long run on the Seahawks' territory led to a placement, not a touchdown. They could also have been arrested after Lockett's controversial capture.

The Packers may have to win to play in the playoffs. It's not impossible with Rodgers, but unlikely. And if the Packers miss the playoffs, they'll wonder what might have happened if McCarthy had challenged Lockett's grip.
