On Monday night, we had a fun game with a close result, but the stark reality of the 24-17 Bears victory against the Seahawks is that we have seen two teams heading in opposite directions in the NFC. Chicago gets up and Seattle skips, trying to find an identity in the post of Legion of Boom Era.
The Bears relied on Mitchell Trubisky's rookie contract in exchange for Khalil Mack, and both men made an impact, as did Allen Robinson, a top-ranked player. Chicago is able to add parts like Mack and Robinson because Trubisky is cheap, compared to the veterans of the quarters. Once upon a time, Seattle blocked open a window for a run for a possible defensive dynasty thanks to Russell Wilson's inexpensive rookie contract, a window that closed this dead season with the ruined LOB.
Seattle was relegated to rebuilding both sides of the ball, trying to reconfigure the list around Wilson. There are many players of interest to Seattle, but it's clearly an evolving list. Will Dissly is one of their best receivers, which we all saw coming after recording about 400 yards in college.

The offensive line is always a disaster. Wilson was besieged all day, being sacked six times and squeezing a lot more. The lack of weapons around him clearly forces him to exert pressure, and he holds the ball too long. Brian Schottenheimer was trying to establish the descent with less than six minutes to go, and there might not be enough of a goal to create a good attack, but if the goal is to be a old team, things will go bad. Defensively, the Seahawks can be better than people think. But they are still growing up. And they do not accumulate early wins – and it's early and the Seahawks have not even played at home – no matter how the group will meet.
Now, having said all this about Seattle, we do not know for sure that the Bears are going to be good. They were heavily hypnotized this season, but their over / under was only 6.5 wins before Mack's trade. Chicago could easily be 2-0 or 0-2, which probably applies to a lot of different teams in the NFL. But for the Bears, it's fair to ask if Trubisky is a guy who can currently elevate this list into the playoff position.
If Trubisky is in a better position as a quarterback, the Bears beat the Packers. And if the Bears defensemen – and Prince Amukamura choose six – do not bail them out, the Bears could easily have allowed Russell to walk the field, do things, and become weird.
Fortunately for Trubisky, he has a smart player, good weapons around him and a defense that should save him at other times of the season. I also like Trubisky. His athleticism and arm can make him a special quarterback, but his inexperience should also put a damper on expectations.
As exciting as this Bears victory was for a fanbase forced to go through several seasons of John Fox, it should still concern the Bears ended with fewer yards than the Seahawks and Trubisky was leading as much touchdown as he killed with interceptions.
I love what Chicago builds and where they go. They are aggressive in a small niche powered by a salary advantage. Go 7-9 this season would not be great.
Perhaps we could say the same thing for the Seahawks at this point. Which could say a lot more about Seattle than about Chicago.

For the second week in a row, the Chicago Bears looked fantastic at the start of a football game. They put the Packers on their heels early last week and came out for a long methodical touchdown in their first race Monday night against the Seahawks.
This has long been the basis of Andy Reid's mistakes, featuring awesome records to start with, using a bunch of different formations to keep defenses on their guard and move quickly to the field for an easy score. Matt Nagy brought it – after helping him orchestrate in KC, even though Reid worked very well this year as well – and it works really well for the Bears. Trubisky looks incredibly comfortable using these early game scripts.
Note: The Bears are now 2/2 by hedging the first half and first quarter spreads on this young NFL season. The latter needs a bit of luck in terms of the draw, but there might be some value in this regard.
Sadly …
The Bears, however, were less than brilliant in their offensive performances after the first scenario. Before the end of the third quarter of Monday's game, Chicago did not have a single touchdown on a record that did not open.
In six quarters, not counting the first attempts, Chicago only produced 314 total yards (including a total of 206 yards against the Packers). They corrected after halftime – and thus somehow ruined my story – with Trubisky's touchdown pass to rookie Anthony Miller, who also managed to spoil a story about Trubisky's not being able to throw left .

Nagy is not a model. He spent years learning with Reid in Kansas City (it also helps explain the scripts) and he uses a lot of Reid's tricks in his first year as a Bears coach.
