Sean O'Malley says he left UFC 229 because of the violation of USADA

Sean O'Malley will not fight at UFC 229 on Saturday because of a potential violation by the US Anti-Doping Agency, he said today.

O 'Malley (10-0 MMA, 2-0 UFC), an undefeated bantam weight hope that was to fight against Jose Quinonez (7-2 MMA, 4-1 UFC) on the preliminaries of the UFC 229, announced today that he had been designated for a potential doping violation and will be unable to compete.

With the UFC and USADA having recently changed their policy to keep potential failures until resolutions are made, O'Malley has decided to announce the news himself and explain the situation.

O'Malley said he thought the problem came from a tainted supplement and revealed that he was already working with the people needed to clear his name of any wrongdoing.

He explained everything in detail on social media (via Instagram):

"Hi guys, Sugar Show here … I want to be the first to let you know what's going on. As many of you may have seen, the UFC announced this weekend that it was no longer announcing potential violations of the USADA program, due to the high number of cases of unintended use under the program.

"I am currently caught in one of these cases. Even though, under the new policy, my case would not be public at the moment, I think it important to be frank and honest with my fans to find out why I will not fight next weekend.

"I'm working with Jeff Novitzky at UFC and I think we've already identified a dietary supplement that would have caused this. We sent the remaining samples from the bottle I had brought to the USADA laboratory as well as a fully sealed bottle. I am told that testing of these supplements can take up to 30 days.

"I will continue to inform you of the results, but I expect it to be what I already know, that I have not done anything on purpose.

"For all those who follow me and who were enthusiastic about my fight, I'm really sorry. It hurts me so much that I can not go out and do what I like on the biggest stage.

"I have no intention of cheating and I am confident that the results of this case will show it. I love my fans and hope the impact on my career will be minimal and I'm back in action. "

UFC 229 is taking place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The main card is broadcast on pay-pay-view after the preliminary matches on FX and UFC Fight Pass.
