The story was made on the main map of the UFC 226 which took place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Mid-heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier (21-1 MMA, 10-1 UFC) became the second fighter in the history of the UFC to simultaneously hold two belts when he added the Heavy gold to his collection with a knockout in the first round of Stipe. Miocic (18-3 MMA, 12-3 UFC) in the event's poster head, putting his name on the list of the greatest fighters in the history of MMA.
Cormier's performance stole the show, but before his fight there were other performances – Derrick Lewis (20-5 MMA, 11-3 UFC) notwithstanding. Mike Perry (12-3 MMA, 5-3 UFC) showed new aspects of his game, Anthony Pettis (21-7 MMA, 8-6 UFC) got his best win in years, and Khalil Rountree (7- 2 MMA, 3 -2 CFU) has achieved a stunning reversal.
After each event, the fans wonder who the winners will be paired with. And with another UFC action night in the rearview mirror, it's time to go ahead, put on a pair of shoes from Sean Shelby and Mick Maynard, and play the UFC matchmaker for the fighters winners of UFC 226.
Khalil Rountree
Should Fight: Sam Alvey
Why They Should Fight: Rountree has extended his invincibility to four fighting when he managed a superb finish from a former kickboxing champion for Rountree stopped Gokhan Saki with punches in just 96 seconds and he now has a good momentum behind him in the light heavyweight division. Rountree is pretty big for the 205-pound division, so he's fighting something like Alvey (33-10 MMA, 10-5 UFC), who recently moved. of average weight and is 2-0 in his new weight class, would present an interesting stylistic match.
Anthony Pettis
Should Fight: Al Iaquinta
Why They Should Fight: The Pettis UFC career was nothing, if not wild, up- He is again on a good note, but given his record and history, it's too early to declare "Showtime" definitively
The former UFC lightweight champion has played his best performance for years when he scored a second try with Michael Chiesa overweight . There were flashes of the first Pettis, because he was showing little concern about disassemblies and that he was able to subdue a dangerous opponent from the bottom.
Pettis said that he was "a good win" away from fighting for the 155-pound title. This seems unlikely given the long list of contenders in the division, and after alternating wins and losses over its last six bouts, some consistency will be needed before it is taken seriously.
If Pettis can prove a point against another name in the division, then the renewed hype around him could move him into the title fight. Iaquinta (13-4-1 MMA, 8-3 UFC) is without a fight after being pulled out of a clash against Justin Gaethje in August, and the skill set of "Ragin & # 39" Al "will present unavoidable challenges to Pettis.
Mike Perry
Should Fight: Winner of Jordan Mein vs. Alex Morono at the UFC on Fox 30
Why They Should Fight: Change In training camps and the decision to approach his After losing consecutive bouts, Perry chose to relocate to Jackson-Wink MMA in New Mexico and try something different. He paid with a split decision win over Paul Felder in what was Perry's first time winning on scorecards.
At 26 and with a natural fighting ability, Perry could be a real threat as long as he continues to take his serious career and commit to improving. He's not yet ready for the elite in the welterweight category, but beating Felder is a beautiful feather in his cap and could be the start of a serious race.
A step forward for Perry coming off the win would be the winner of Mein (30-12 MMA, 4-4 UFC) and Morono (14-4 MMA, 3-1 UFC), who are fighting later this month at UFC on FOX 29. Mein is a veteran of the sport and has shared the cage with some of the best. It would be a good test for Perry, and the match would be a welcome addition to one of the UFC stops in Canada before the event of the year. Morono is the least desirable match on paper, but if he can pass Mein, it would be hard to pretend that he does not deserve a name like Perry.
