Sears Holdings announced Thursday its intention to close an additional 40 stores early next year, while it continues to reduce its activity and seeks to limit losses under bankruptcy protection.
The retailer went bankrupt on October 15 with about 700 Sears and Kmart stores in operation. He announced at the time of closure of 142 unprofitable stores and warned that further closures could follow.
The additional store closings come as Sears is still looking to officially secure the money it needs to stay in business long enough until it can find a potential buyer to avoid liquidation.
