Remember the days when you could wear your shoes through the airport, full body scanners were only science fiction, and you could actually greet your loved ones at the gate?
Sounds kind of nice, right?
Seattle-Tacoma International Airport is taking a closer look at the gatekeeper Seattle Times.
This new measure will make Sea-Tac the first airport in the US to allow visitors beyond 9/11. The "Visitor Pass Program" will be a TSA screening, the Seattle Times explained.
During this test run, the program will only allow 50 visitors per day. Sign up will happen online before 1:30 pm on the day before their visit. If the TSA sends an email approval, the would-be visitor may pick up a pass when they arrive at the airport the next day. Signing up, however, does not guarantee a spot, so it's good to act fast.
TSA checkpoint as ticketed passengers (sorry, you can not get away from those body scans just yet). The day also encourages non-travelers to shop and eat at the airport, which increases revenue for Sea-Tac as well.
However, Lance Lyttle, managing director of Sea-Tac airport, told the Seattle Times, the main reasoning behind the new program is far more sentimental than revenue.
"The fact that you can say goodbye to your loved one is very exciting," he said.
The program will be made available Tuesday through Sunday between 8 am and 10 pm It is important to note that this is only a reference to a permanent policy. The trial will begin Friday, November 9 and end on Friday, December 14.
The airport will measure the response to the program during the trial run and make a decision.
