Democrat Sherrod Brown easily won a third term in the US Senate Tuesday, beating Republican Representative Jim Renacci.

Opinion polls conducted prior to the mid-term elections showed Brown had a decisive lead over Renacci. Brown was to occupy the seat of the Democrats in an attempt to win the Senate.

The race was hard all year. In early 2018, Renacci was a candidate for governorship when he received a call from the White House. President Trump wanted him to go to the Senate race. The presumptive Senate candidate, State Treasurer Josh Mandel, had dropped out of school because of a health problem with his wife.

Although few voters outside of Wadsworth, his hometown of northern Ohio, have heard of Renacci, he responded to the president 's call and embarked on the race in the Senate.

But Brown had named the recognition, substantial financial support on the part and a ground game. Despite being a Democrat in a Trump State won in 2016 by 8 percentage points, Brown has maintained his popularity with the "secret sauce" for Democrats, Jennifer Duffy, with The Cook Political Report, told Enquirer in May.

His popular and accessible attitude, combined with favorable business and union positions on tariffs and trade, ensured his support in Buckeye State, regardless of which column Ohio had landed in the presidential elections.

Renacci offered a different kind of populism by associating with Trump, who supported Rennacci and appeared with him on several occasions during the campaign.

Renacci is one of the richest members of Congress, ranking 16th this year with a net worth of $ 34 million, according to Roll Call. He owned an arena football team and had been trying to buy the Major League hockey team from Pittsburgh Penguins. Most of his money comes from owning and operating dozens of retirement homes in Ohio.

Hi! Here we have full coverage of the mid-term elections. Let's start!

Renacci's campaign has become ugly the last month. When he was unable to defeat Brown's voting advantage, Renacci resurrected allegations of domestic violence made by Brown's ex-wife, Larke Recchie, several decades ago, as part of the a restraining order made in 1986 in the middle of a disputed divorce.

Recchie and Brown have since repaired fences, and Recchie backed Brown, strongly condemning Renacci's attacks, including recording a stunning commercial and saying: "Anyone who suggests (Brown) is not an honorable man is everything just wrong. "

This did not deter Renacci, who revealed to Enquirer in October that "several women" had contacted him about similar allegations against Brown. Renacci did not reveal the names of the women and the attacks failed.
