JUNCTION CITY, Kan. (WIBW) – Residents of the Brookdale Senior Living Community in Junction City held an old-fashioned lemonade stand to raise funds for the Alzheimer's Association.
The group of seniors wanted to make it Thursday with lemonades and treats.
Muriel Johnson, 88, said she knows several people affected by the disease.
"I saw a lot of families. In fact, I imagine that if you asked, every family has a family member who has a memory problem and it's sad to see this happen to anyone, "said Johnson.
The money raised will be used by the Alzheimer's Association to end Alzheimer's disease later this month in Manhattan.
Brookdale Marketing Manager Tammy Elfman said residents felt comfortable preparing treats.
"It's not that most of our residents have Alzheimer's, but some do. You know it keeps them, that's what they did at home, they cooked and they had bake sales with their church groups, so that was very much theirs familiar, "explained Elfman.
Johnson said the disease is hard for many to live with, so she will help wherever she can.
"There seems to be a lot of shame that you have Alzheimer's and you do not remember names and faces, but people can not help you. a lot of other things if there is a way to do it, "Johnson said.
The Alzheimer's Association has stated that the disease can not be prevented, cured or even slowed down.
Johnson saw him remove the brightest minds.
"It does not make any difference to the quality of their education or their lifestyle – everyone is struck by this," she said. "It hits everyone one way or the other."
